“Bike People of Indy” Ep. #4 - DJ LITTLE TOWN

You might recognize this week’s featured bike person from her powerful DJ presence everywhere locally, but she’s been rolling Indy on two wheels long before she powered up her first deck.

I’d never really talked with DJ Little Town (or Jess, as she goes by off-stage) before we met on a sunny morning last Wednesday at Amelias-Windsor Park. Jess broke her normal routine to meet with me, waking up earlier than her usual, for a rare morning bike ride to our chat a mile or so away from her downtown home. She told me upon arriving she’d forgotten just how great morning bike rides are. This morning, like many lately, started out just cool enough for a hoodie, with a tinge of autumn felt as the first of the leaves began collecting on the ground. We got to chat and get to know each other for a short while we waited for some nearby mowing to finish up, and we settled down in a comfy spot inside a heavily patinaed, repurposed antique elevator car behind the bakery that is really something to behold. We waited for the mowing to finish before we rolled the tape, but we didn’t foresee the subsequent weed-eater and blower work that would be happening, but it’s only an occasional short buzz in the background and not too bad in the recording.

We hope you enjoy our chat that hits a bit of everything: music, being punk rock, riding on the streets, bike-commuter pains, being a female DJ & cyclist, the need for maintaining bike lanes, and even the rash of suicides in the Indy messenger community. We talked longer than usual episodes, so long that we ran out of video memory and have only audio for the second portion of the talk. We anticipate this is only the first of many chats & collabs between Bike People and the fabulous DJ Little Town!
