Bike People of Indy Podcast - Episode #13 - Blair Dietrick

Blair is a local creative & community builder. She's a former Parks Service Welder. She's finished major hikes and long distance bike races. Say hi to her at Bike Party, Mass Boulder, or at Book Club!

Sitting down with Blair and her Chihuahua Zelda to record a podcast over morning coffee, and talking about the topics of endurance, pain, embodiment, and gratitude was a great way to start my rest day having just completed a 2-day, 80 mile shop bikepacking trip in cold rain with some new friends the day before.

Blair Dietrick, another new friend, quickly became a friend of Bike People during her effort earlier this year to launch the first annual Bike People Zine. She helped put out the call to the local artist/bicycling community for bike-related submissions for the zine, and a few short weeks later was assembling each submission into what would become the pages of the Zine. A lot of work was spent clipping old & vintage publications and decorating the borders of the zine pages with collages, making the whole thing extra cool. She inadvertently even clipped a part from an old zine publication that just happened to be written by local legend Scott Spitz, and it was included as a decorative border to another artists submission quite randomly.

We’re super excited for you to learn about Blair’s Bike People Book Club she’s launching next! Having lead some local book clubs in the past, she is excited to offer us a bike-centric version with some choice picks for us to read and talk about over the next year. One of the things I personally love most about this is that it is not much of a time commitment at all, yet it will be a great way to meet and connect with our community and read some bike books I would’ve missed otherwise.

I hope you enjoy this conversation with Blair, we had fun recording it despite the construction noise.

Huge thanks goes out to our friend Jake Wheatley for saving the day with the audio through the background noise and for producing the rest of the episode. Much gratitude, Jake!
